(Sapelli, Sapelly, Caoba de Guinea)

The color of the sapwood varies from gray to cream-white and the heartwood varies in pink, freshly cut, reddish-brown to purplish brown, when exposed to light. It has a characteristic odor reminiscent of cedar and prolonging. Sometimes resin may exude. Its main flaw is the possible presence of barley grain. Sapele wood is resistant to bending, crushing supports, shock resistance, resistance to decay over time. Low elasticity.

The wood is classified as moderately durable against fungi and termites, sensitive to marine borers.
